Two interlocking fixes driven by a production lockout incident.
## Bug that motivated this
A fresh schema-drift column (auth.users.onboarding_completed_at) made
every Better Auth query crash with Postgres 42703. The /login wrapper
swallowed the non-2xx and mapped it onto a generic "401 Invalid
credentials" AND bumped the password lockout counter — so 5 legit
login attempts against a broken DB would have locked every real user
out of their own account. Same wrapper pattern on /register, /refresh,
/reset-password etc. The 30-minute hunt ended in a one-off repro
script that finally surfaced the real Postgres error.
The user-facing passkey button additionally returned generic 404s on
every login-page mount because the route wasn't registered (the DB
schema existed, the Better Auth plugin wasn't wired).
## Phase 1 — Error classification (services/mana-auth/src/lib/auth-errors)
- 19-code AuthErrorCode taxonomy (INVALID_CREDENTIALS, EMAIL_NOT_VERIFIED,
ACCOUNT_LOCKED, SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE, PASSKEY_VERIFICATION_FAILED, …)
- classifyFromResponse/classifyFromError handle: Better Auth APIError
(duck-typed on `name === 'APIError'`), Postgres errors (23505 unique,
42703/08xxx → infra), ZodError, fetch/ECONNREFUSED network errors,
bare Error, unknown.
- respondWithError routes the structured response, logs at the right
level, fires the correct security event, and CRITICALLY only bumps
the lockout counter for actual credential failures — SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE
and INTERNAL never touch lockout.
- All 12 endpoints in routes/auth.ts refactored (/login, /register,
/logout, /session-to-token, /refresh, /validate, /forgot-password,
/reset-password, /resend-verification, /profile GET+POST,
/change-email, /change-password, /account DELETE).
- Fixed pre-existing auth.api.forgetPassword typo (→ requestPasswordReset).
- shared-logger + requestLogger middleware wired in index.ts; all
console.* calls in the service removed.
## Phase 2 — Passkey end-to-end (@better-auth/passkey 1.6+)
- sql/007_passkey_bootstrap.sql: idempotent schema alignment —
friendly_name→name, +aaguid, transports jsonb→text, +method column
on login_attempts.
- better-auth.config.ts: passkey plugin wired with rpID/rpName/origin
from new webauthn config section. rpID defaults to mana.how in prod
(from COOKIE_DOMAIN), localhost in dev.
- routes/passkeys.ts: 7 wrapper endpoints (capability probe,
register/options+verify, authenticate/options+verify with JWT mint,
list, delete, rename). Each routes errors through the classifier;
authenticate/verify promotes generic INVALID_CREDENTIALS to
PASSKEY_VERIFICATION_FAILED.
- PasskeyRateLimitService: in-memory per-IP (options: 20/min) and
per-credential (verify: 10 failures/min → 5 min cooldown) buckets.
Deliberately separate from the password lockout — different factor,
different blast radius.
- Client: authService.getPasskeyCapability() async probe, memoised per
session. authStore.passkeyAvailable reactive state. LoginPage gates
on === true so a slow probe doesn't flash the button in.
- AuthResult grew a code: AuthErrorCode field; handleAuthError in
shared-auth prefers the server envelope over the legacy message
heuristics.
## Tests
- 30 unit tests for the classifier covering every branch (including
the exact Postgres 42703 shape that started this).
- 9 unit tests for the rate limiter.
- 14 integration tests for the auth routes — the regression test
explicitly asserts "upstream 500 → 503 + zero lockout bumps".
- 101 tests pass, 0 fail, 30 pre-existing skips unchanged.

Five unrelated packages each had a few imports pointing at the wrong
file or missing from their public surface. Grouped because none of
the individual fixes warrants its own commit and they all unblock
the same downstream consumer (apps/mana/apps/web type-check).
packages/help
- HelpPage.svelte: `'../types.js'` and `'./content'` for
HelpPageProps/HelpSection/SearchResult — neither path exists.
Real homes are `../ui-types` (props) and `../search-types`
(search shapes). Fix the imports.
- HelpSearch.svelte: same `'../content'` typo for SearchResult →
`'../search-types'`.
- translations.ts: `'./types.js'` for HelpPageTranslations →
`'./ui-types'`.
- ui-types.ts: was importing SearchResult from `'./content'` but
that module only exports content shapes. Split into two imports
so HelpContent stays from content.ts and SearchResult comes from
search-types.ts.
packages/feedback
- FeedbackPage.svelte: imported `Feedback` and `CreateFeedbackInput`
from `'./createFeedbackService'` but the service module only
exports the service factory. Real homes are `'./feedback'`
(Feedback) and `'./api'` (CreateFeedbackInput).
- FeedbackForm.svelte: same `'./feedback'` typo for
CreateFeedbackInput → `'./api'`.
packages/subscriptions
- UsageCard / CostCard / pages/SubscriptionPage: all imported
UsageData / CostItem from `'./plans'` but those types live in
`'./usage'`. SubscriptionPage additionally had a relative-path
bug — it's at `src/pages/`, not `src/`, so `./plans` resolved
to `pages/plans` (nonexistent). Now imports `'../plans'` for
plan types and `'../usage'` for usage/cost types.
packages/shared-ui
- index.ts: re-exports the QuickInputItem family from
`./quick-input` but had forgotten `HighlightPattern`. Added.
Apps that build their own InputBar pattern config (e.g.
mana/web/src/lib/quick-input/types.ts) need it as a public type.
- PillNavigation.svelte: imported `SpotlightAction` and
`ContentSearcher` from `./GlobalSpotlight.svelte` (a Svelte
component file), which only re-exports the default. Both types
live in `./types`. Move them to the existing types-import
block; the GlobalSpotlight import becomes a plain default.
packages/shared-auth-ui
- stores/createAuthStore.svelte.ts: imported AuthServiceAdapter /
AuthResult / BaseUser from `'./types'` (nonexistent — the file
is `'./store-types'`).
Net: -23 type errors. Zero behavior change.

The settings page in mana/web (and any future consumer that wants to
manage passkeys, 2FA, or sessions from the UI) was calling 11
methods on `authStore` that the wrapper had never exposed:
listPasskeys, registerPasskey, deletePasskey, renamePasskey,
listSessions, revokeSession, getSecurityEvents, enableTwoFactor,
disableTwoFactor, generateBackupCodes — all of which DO exist on
the underlying AuthServiceInterface but were silently dropped by
createManaAuthStore. Result: 17 type errors on settings/+page.svelte
and a complete dead-end for anyone trying to wire up the UI.
Fix: add thin passthrough wrappers in createManaAuthStore that
delegate to authService. Each handles the SSR/no-service case the
same way the existing methods do (return empty array or
{success:false} with a stable error message). enableTwoFactor and
disableTwoFactor additionally refresh the local user snapshot
after success because the JWT issued post-enrollment carries the
new flag and downstream UI gates on it.
Type fixes that fell out of touching settings/+page.svelte:
- UserData.twoFactorEnabled?: boolean — optional flag on the
public user shape. The TwoFactorSetup component reads it via
`authStore.user?.twoFactorEnabled` to gate the enable/disable
button; without the type the call site coerced through `any`.
- CreditBalance.{freeCreditsRemaining,dailyFreeCredits}?: number
— daily-free accounting fields the backend already returns but
the local type was missing. Optional because not every backend
deployment turns them on.
- settings/+page.svelte: `authStore.user?.sub` → `?.id`. The
public UserData shape uses `id`; `sub` is the raw JWT claim
name and never made it onto the consumer type.

- Add AuthErrorCode union and typed twoFactorRedirect/retryAfter fields on AuthResult so the frontend can branch on stable codes instead of locale-dependent error strings.
- Extend signInWithPasskey with an optional { conditional } flag, threaded through to @simplewebauthn/browser via useBrowserAutofill, so hosts can opt into WebAuthn Conditional UI (passkey suggestions inline in the email autofill dropdown).

Merge the auth store factories (createManaAuthStore, createAuthStore) from
@manacore/shared-auth-stores into @manacore/shared-auth-ui, reducing
from 3 auth packages to 2.
- Copy store files into shared-auth-ui/src/stores/
- Re-export store factories and types from shared-auth-ui
- Update imports in manacore/web and arcade/web
- Remove shared-auth-stores from active package.json dependencies
Result: @manacore/shared-auth (core, platform-agnostic) +
@manacore/shared-auth-ui (Svelte components + stores)
